Entries are now open for the National Fish & Chip Awards 2027, and once again The Q Partnership is proud to sponsor the Takeaway of the Year category.
Every year, the National Fish & Chip Awards celebrate the very best businesses in the industry, recognising operators who go above and beyond to deliver exceptional food, outstanding customer experiences and a commitment to continually improving their businesses.
As sponsors of the Takeaway of the Year category, The Q Partnership is delighted to support the businesses that are setting the benchmark for excellence across the UK.
What is Takeaway of the Year?
The Takeaway of the Year category celebrates businesses that demonstrate excellence across every area of their operation.
The judges aren’t just looking for great fish and chips. They’re looking for businesses that showcase outstanding standards, innovation and passion across everything they do.
Entrants are assessed on areas including:
- Food quality and consistency
- Knowledge of fish, potatoes and ingredients
- Customer service and the overall customer experience
- Sustainability and responsible business practices
- Hygiene and operational standards
- Staff training and development
- Marketing and community engagement
- Business growth and innovation
The judging process is designed to identify businesses that are not only serving exceptional meals but are also helping to shape the future of the fish and chip industry.
Proud to Support Takeaway Excellence
As businesses that supply and support fish and chip shops across the UK, The Q Partnership understands the commitment required to run a successful takeaway.
Made up of Henry Colbeck, Friars Pride and V.A. Whitley, The Q Partnership works alongside thousands of operators every year, seeing first-hand the passion, resilience and creativity that exists within our industry.
We see businesses constantly striving to improve—from developing new menu ideas and investing in their teams to championing sustainability and delivering outstanding service.
That’s why we’re proud to sponsor the Takeaway of the Year category.
This award represents everything we believe makes the fish and chip industry special: businesses that respect tradition while embracing innovation, operators who invest in their future and teams who take pride in every portion they serve.
More Than Just a Trophy
Winning Takeaway of the Year is an incredible achievement, but the benefits of entering begin long before the winner is announced.
The National Fish & Chip Awards provide businesses with:
- National recognition within the industry
- Increased customer trust and confidence
- Valuable PR and social media opportunities
- Expert feedback from experienced judges
- A chance to benchmark against the UK’s best operators
- A platform to celebrate your team and your achievements
The awards also encourage businesses to step back and look at every part of their operation, identifying strengths and opportunities to improve.
For many entrants, the journey itself becomes a turning point—helping them refine their business, tell their story and showcase everything that makes them unique.
The Scrap Box: From Finalist to Industry Champion
The Scrap Box in York is a fantastic example of how entering the National Fish & Chip Awards can transform a business.
Owned by brothers Aman and Gavin Dhesi, The Scrap Box was crowned Takeaway of the Year 2026 after demonstrating excellence across every aspect of its operation.
But their success didn’t happen overnight.
The team continually invested in improving their business, embracing feedback, strengthening their customer experience and finding new ways to stand out in a competitive industry.
After collecting the award, Aman Dhesi described the achievement:
“There are so many outstanding fish and chip shops across the UK, and countless awards, but this is the one every chippy dreams of, the ‘Oscars’ of our industry!”
He added that representing the very best of fish and chips for the year ahead was “both humbling and hugely meaningful” and a testament to the “craft, care and consistency” behind every portion they serve.
The commercial impact of the awards has also been significant. Aman shared that reaching the Top 40 generated a 20% increase in trade, progressing to the Top 20 brought a further 10% increase, and winning the overall title resulted in turnover increasing by 100%.
Their story demonstrates that the National Fish & Chip Awards are about much more than recognition—they can create real opportunities for business growth.
As Aman said:
“Every business has a story — operators just need confidence to tell it.”
