As today is National Fish & Chip Day – Friday June 2nd, as Joint Headline Sponsors we thought it would be a good idea to let you know why we sponsor what we believe to be the premier National Food Day of the Year!

Henry Colbeck started the company in 1893 and this year we’re not only proud to be celebrating our 130th year in business, but we’ve also recently been honoured to win ‘Supplier of the Year’ at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2023.

In addition, we know that 2023 will prove challenging for many of our customers, so we decided to work together with our Q Partnership colleagues at Friars Pride and V A Whitley to invest even further into our industry, to promote our national dish and become Joint Headline Sponsors with Middleton Foods for National Fish & Chip Day.

Investing in the day means that organisers NEODA ( National Edible Oils Distributors’ Association ) has more resources to deliver more activity, which in turn generates more positive PR. Did you know that our National Awareness Day delivered £1,220,000 of coverage for the Fish & Chip industry in 2022 alone?

NEODA not only helps the edible oils industry to maintain good practices and improve standards, but behind the scenes the team, headed up by the tirelessly enthusiastic Lynda Simmons, continues to deliver a National Fish & Chip Day that gets better and increases its coverage every year.

We have always sponsored National Fish and Chip Day, because we believe a National Awareness Day for our industry is critical. We want the awareness that’s generated to reinforce the great things we know about Fish & Chips to everyone – and especially the younger generation of consumers.

As well as sponsoring, over the years we’ve always helped NEODA where we can – from helping to run the roadshows and providing free products and packaging, to providing space at our annual exhibitions to promote the event and profile and sell merchandise. Being wholesalers we’ve used our distribution team to deliver free National Fish & Chip Day posters and we’ve run many competitions in our What’s Hot! magazine. We always make sure our team are treated to fish and chips on the day too!

Working with our partner sponsors this year we’ve been delighted to ring the changes in the colour of the merchandise and this year’s yellow, red, blue and green caps and aprons have been best sellers!. Our Marketing Director Georgina Colbeck has been promoting the new range at this spring’s exhibitions and wore her ‘lucky pinny’ to the National Fish & Chip Awards too.

We hope that this years big day is the best one ever and raises awareness and sales of the Nation’s Favourite Dish – Fish & Chips!
