At Henry Colbeck, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As proud ambassadors for sustainable palm oil, we work only with trusted suppliers who share our values. Recently, we visited SD Guthrie’s Liverpool oil plant and attended their Customer Connect Sustainability Event at Chester Zoo — experiences that reinforced our commitment to providing fish and chip shops with 100% certified sustainable segregated palm oil.

Why Sustainable Palm Oil Matters for Fish and Chip Shops

At Henry Colbeck, we are proud to be sustainable palm oil ambassadors. By working with SD Guthrie and other responsible suppliers, we can guarantee that every drop of palm oil we supply to fish and chip shops is 100% certified sustainable segregated.

For our customers, this means you can serve food with confidence, knowing that your ingredients support sustainable farming, reduce deforestation, and protect biodiversity.

Visiting the SD Guthrie Liverpool Oil Plant

Our visit began at SD Guthrie’s Liverpool site, where we networked over lunch before hearing from Richard Town, SD Guthrie International’s General Manager. Richard’s presentation highlighted both the company’s current operations and its ambitious plans for expansion.

The highlight of the visit was the guided tour of the oil plant and packaging line, giving us behind-the-scenes insight into how our palm oil is processed and packed. This first-hand experience showcased the efficiency, scale, and responsibility that underpin SD Guthrie’s work.

Customer Connect Sustainability Event at Chester Zoo

The following day, we joined SD Guthrie at Chester Zoo for their Customer Connect Sustainability Event. The location could not have been more fitting, given Chester Zoo’s world-leading role in conservation and protecting biodiversity.

After breakfast and networking, we heard from an inspiring line-up of sustainability experts:

  • Richard Town – General Manager, SD Guthrie International
  • Mark Wong – Head of Downstream Sustainability, SD Guthrie International
  • Alastair Pattrick – Sustainable Sourcing Manager, Co-Op
  • Cat Barton – Policy Lead: Deforestation-Free Commodities & Regenerative Agriculture, Chester Zoo

Topics covered everything from supply chain transparency to deforestation-free commodities, highlighting the importance of responsible palm oil in protecting both people and wildlife.

Following the talks and a networking lunch, we explored the zoo on a guided tour — the perfect way to reflect on the role that sustainable sourcing plays in conserving our planet’s most vulnerable ecosystems.
